A birthday party for Mary

“Let us celebrate with joyful hearts the birth of the Virgin Mary, of whom was born the Sun of Justice, Christ our Lord.”

Hello and happy Friday!!

It’s hard to believe it’s already September.

It’s especially to believe it here in Florida where the weather has not changed since May one iota. But anyway, at least we have the sunshine!

This month we have a *lot* of Marian feast days:

  • September 8: The Nativity of Mary
  • September 12: Most Holy Name of Mary
  • September 15: Our Lady of Sorrows
  • September 24: Our Lady of Mercy
  • September 27: Our Lady Star of the Sea
  • September 28: Mary Undoer of Knots

Whew. That is quite the list! I’ve decided to go big for two of them: the Nativity (Sept. 8) and Our Lady Star of the Sea (Sept. 27).

In this post, I will give some ideas for a Marian birthday tea! Just to give you a little inspiration in case you want to celebrate too 🙂

FOOD

I am making funfetti cupcakes 🙂 I’m not much of a baker so I’m keeping it simple and making them out of the box this time. I will do the classic white icing and top them off with these super cute cupcake toppers!

Other than that I will do little snacks such as tea sandwiches, fruit, and veggies.

DECOR

I am going with the ‘it’s a girl!’ balloons from the local grocery store + a ‘happy birthday’ felt banner that is coincidentally blue! I also ordered these adorable gold glitter crowns (because Mary is a queen) for us to wear.

I will of course be putting some blue and white floral arrangements around the house and I’m using one of my Marian statues as a centerpiece for the table. If you don’t have a statue of Mary you could always use a little Nativity scene! Other than that I will be using some of my nicer table linens and china.

PARTY FAVORS

I loveee a good party favor. For this celebration I am including a copy of one of my favorite books about Mary, as well as a BEAUTIFUL Marian prayer card (love love love Paper Monastery).

You can’t go wrong with a candle from Theology of Home (Immaculate might be a good choice for this particular day), a pretty rosary bracelet, or any other book about Mary/Marian devotional that you have found fruitful—would love to hear your recommendations!

ACTIVITIES

That’s it! Hopefully this helps you come up with a fun way to celebrate our beautiful Mother. You can follow me along in my celebrations over on Instagram.

Happy Feasting!
