Today I found myself scrolling through the Duke and Duchess’ social media page. (While I was supposed to be working, of course).
As I saw glimpses of media ops, award events, and messages about the importance of mental health, I thought about why we seem to have such an avid interest in the royal family, especially princess Kate.
Of course, they are some of the wealthiest people alive, and money is intriguing. Kate is certainly beautiful and her fashion enviable. But (and maybe I’m reading too much into this) I tend to think that possibly there’s a deeper meaning behind our curiosity.
Someone once told me that being children of God elevated us to the status of royalty. Though it’s a strange concept, it’s something I keep coming back to.
If we accept what Scripture says about God being King of Kings. Then, as adopted sons and daughters, we are royalty. And of course, in a worldly sense, it doesn’t seem to mean much. I don’t think anyone will be offering me the throne anytime soon. BUT I think this reality is impressed upon our hearts, which is why we have this affinity for the royal family.
We yearn for great dignity because it is what we are made for.
Each person has an incredible right to respect because our Father gave it to us. We belong to Him and bear His image. That means something; quite a lot, actually.
The way we treat ourselves and others should reflect that.
That is why we stand up tall, dress elegantly, and put our best foot forward. This is why we speak kindly and not brashly. This is why we take care of our minds and our bodies. This is why we share generously our resources with others.
In an even more real sense than Kate is a princess, we are royalty. And we should act like it.
In all sincerity,
Miranda
