Monday Five: Holy Week & Other Things I’m Excited About This Week

Today is a tired day. Even though yesterday was pretty restful, Saturday was so busy I felt like I couldn’t quite catch up with rest from last week. So tonight is going to be an early one. On days like these, I try to keep things a little easier for myself by doing less computer work, going for easier food solutions, and getting outside a little more. How do you handle tired days?

As I said, Saturday was a busy day. I helped out with a young women’s retreat at church for most of the the day. Then Stephen, Monica and I went to an event at a convent that was hosted by nuns for families. The topic of discussion was humor, one of my favorite things!!! Which saying that makes me think of The Sound of Music which I was kind of already thinking about that because of the whole nun thing. Anyway.

Yesterday after church we went to brunch, something we haven’t done in a long time. Unfortunately, the restaurant was less than exciting but luckily it was close to a Trader Joe’s, which made the trip worth it to me.

In the afternoon we continued reading The Hobbit (we’re almost done!), played a board game, made dinner together, and had ice cream sandwiches from TJ’s for dessert. It was a good Sunday.

This week is an important week. How are you celebrating Easter??

HOLY WEEK

Like I said, an important week. I’m obviously super excited for Easter, but also for the events leading up to it. This whole week commemorates everything that happened leading up to the Passion. So beautiful. It’s everything, truly. We celebrated Palm Sunday yesterday, and I put the palms we got out on the front porch. I’m hoping to go to the Mass of the Lord’s Supper Thursday, although we won’t be able to make it to the Veneration of the Cross on Friday since we’ll be traveling to Charleston (SO excited about that). Anyway. It’s a good week to reflect on everything that has been done for us.

THIS POEM

Speaking of Palm Sunday… G.K. Chesterton wrote this poem about it called The Donkey. It’s one of my favorites, and that’s all I’ll say about it because it’s SO good and super short so you should just read it!!!

THIS PODCAST

I listened to The Jen Fulwiler Show for the first time in a while this week, and wow did it hit some nerves. In a good way. Is that a thing? This episode talks about how being against babies is being against women, and how women sometimes need to ask for help. Both of these topics are SO important and SO relevant and I’m certainly very passionate about. Having a six-month-old, I’ve now become more aware of how many places/events/people are unfriendly to little ones, and how stressful that can be for us. It’s not OK and needs to be addressed (which Jen did beautifully). Also, I get frustrated at how many moms complain about not being able to ‘do it all’, and so give up on having a clean house or a healthy lifestyle or going to Church, etc. It doesn’t have to be this way, in fact, it shouldn’t. But it’s also true that we can’t do it all!!! We have to ask for help, and even though you may think you can’t afford a sitter or a housekeeper, sometimes it’s just a matter of re-working the budget to make it fit. Anyway, I digress. But there was a lot of good stuff packed in that episode if you’re interested!

THESE CHIPS

You know I love TJ’s and talk about it ad nauseam. But I can’t help but mention these chips that we picked up over the weekend. They are so delicious and crunchy and just too good. We don’t buy chips that often but I definitely hope to get these again. Yummm.

THIS SHORT PLAY

Another Holy Week favorite. This play by Earnest Hemingway is just incredible. Written from the perspective of the Centurion, it relates the Crucifixion in a whole different light than what we typically hear. I love how he depicts the humanity of these men and how they could have been affected by witnessing the most momentous death in history. Definitely worth a read on Good Friday.

That’s it for me! See you on the other side of Lent!!!

Cheers,

Miranda
