Monday Five: Lembas Bread & Other Things I’m Excited About This Week

What a weekend! We flew out to MD Thursday night for a Wedding in Stephen’s hometown on Saturday. It was so good to be with family, relax, and celebrate! Monica handled her first flights well, she only cried a little bit.

It was a more restful trip than I expected, although we got back late last night so I’ve definitely been dragging some today.

Also, sorry for missing last week! My sisters-in-law were in town and I was busy with them which is why I didn’t post.

I hope the past couple of weeks have treated you well 🙂 what are you excited about this week?

LEMBAS BREAD

So as I said in an earlier week, Stephen and I have been reading LOTR and loving it. We’re officially part of the nerd crowd I used to make fun of. Part of that includes celebrating Hobbit Day (as we’ve coined it). March 25 is the day that the hobbits set out on the adventure to defeat Smaug, and the day the ring was destroyed. It also is the feast of the Annunciation, which is no coincidence as Tolkien was very clear about. To celebrate this momentous occasion, my sister-in-law and her bf made Lembas bread! This is what the hobbits take with them on the journeys that is supposed to hold them over for long periods of time. It was so yum. Basically like a cinnamon scone. It was good by itself and also with homemade icing. Highly recommend!

ORGANIZATION CART

Before Monica was born, my godmother and pro organizer came to visit me and help me get a little more organized before the baby came. One of the best fruits of that weekend was this cart which Carrie put together in the nursery. It now lives next to the changing table and I love it. I keep all Monica’s burp cloths, diapers, wipes, hats, bows (so many bows), and other misc. things on it. It forces me to keep things neat as it is out in the open, but I can also move it around if needed. I think it’s a super versatile piece you can use for just about any room in the house that needs a little extra organization.

COFFEE WITH THE SAINTS

One of the childhood memories I cherish is going to a weekly meeting called DTS. This stood for Dead Theologian Society. During this time, a few families with kids around the same age got together to talk about a saint. Afterward the kids would play while the moms chatted (typical me, I liked to stay with the moms more than play with people my own age). I decided recently to give this type of meeting a shot although I’m rebranding to call it Coffee with the Saints as it’s a little less morbid. Tomorrow is our first session and I’m excited! I’m making muffins and will have tea/coffee available as well.

FIT MOM LIFE TO THE FULLEST

I came across this podcast on Spotify and have been listening to it a lot for the past week or so. She has good, practical advice to be healthy and active as a mother. I love her open and honest conversational tone that gets straight to the point and doesn’t beat around the bushes. She is also Catholic which I appreciate as she points out that health is not about vanity but about living the life God wants you to live and living it to the fullest!

REUNIONS

One of the best parts of our trip this weekend was being able to see one of my childhood friends, Alexandra. She and I went to elementary school in Venezuela together from 2006-2009. She moved to NY and then to DC which is where we were flying out of back to Florida. I reached out to her and we were able to get coffee in the city before leaving Sunday night. It was so good to see her again, I love that it’s been so long and we are still a part of each others’ lives. Her getting to meet Stephen and Monica meant the world to me and I’m so grateful! I love moments like that.

That’s it for me!

Cheers,

Miranda
